About Those Freeman Boys
How It All Started
Those Freeman Boys started the way a lot of real-world mechanical experience begins: necessity.
Back in the late 90s, Marty began working on his own vehicles simply because he couldn’t afford shop repairs. Like many self-taught mechanics, he learned one job at a time: fixing what broke, figuring things out along the way, and building the kind of experience that only comes from years of hands-on work.
Before long, friends and family began asking for help with their vehicles too. Larger projects often turned into a team effort, with Jason stepping in to help tackle the bigger jobs while pursuing his own path focused on business ownership and learning what it takes to build a successful company.
In 2010, when Marty became a stay-at-home dad, he started doing occasional repairs out of his garage to bring in extra income. A simple Craigslist post offering affordable auto repair quickly turned into steady side work helping neighbors and local drivers keep their vehicles on the road.
By 2020, it was clear there was an opportunity to build something bigger.
Jason had been encouraging Marty for years to start a business together, so when the idea of launching a mobile mechanic service came up, the answer was simple: let’s do it.
They cashed out their 401(k)s, pooled their savings, registered the business with the state, bought a truck, and started Those Freeman Boys as a mobile mechanic service serving drivers throughout the Indianapolis area.
For the next few years, the business operated entirely out of that truck — diagnosing and repairing vehicles at homes, workplaces, and parking lots wherever customers needed help.
As the customer base grew, so did the need for a dedicated workspace. In 2023, Those Freeman Boys moved into their first shop location.
A Family Business
Those Freeman Boys has always been a family operation. Today the shop is run entirely by family. Everyone involved shares the same goal: doing honest work and treating customers the way we would want our own family treated. That family dynamic shapes how the shop operates every day. Customers aren’t treated like numbers or invoices, they’re treated like neighbors.
What Drives Us
Auto repair has earned a reputation for being confusing, stressful, and sometimes unfair. We built Those Freeman Boys to do things differently.
Our goal has always been to make vehicle repair as affordable as possible without sacrificing quality. That means explaining problems clearly, recommending the repairs that actually matter, and helping customers make informed decisions about their vehicles.
Most of the cars we work on are the vehicles people rely on every day — commuters, family vehicles, light trucks, and SUVs. When something goes wrong, it affects work, school, and daily life, and we take that responsibility seriously.
What You Can Expect From Us
When you bring your vehicle to Those Freeman Boys, our goal is to make the repair process straightforward and stress-free. Here’s what that means in practice:
-
Clear explanations
We take the time to explain what we’re seeing and what it means for your vehicle in plain language. -
Honest recommendations
We focus on the repairs that actually matter — not selling work that isn’t needed. -
Respect for your budget
If multiple repairs are needed, we’ll help prioritize what should be handled now and what can safely wait. -
Quality work
Every repair is performed with the same attention to detail we’d give our own vehicles. -
Straightforward communication
No pressure, no surprises — just honest conversations about what your vehicle needs.
Serving Drivers Across Indianapolis
What started with a garage, a Craigslist post, and a single service truck has grown into a full shop serving drivers throughout the Indianapolis area.
The tools may have changed, but the philosophy hasn’t: do the work right, treat people fairly, and help keep our customers safely on the road.
If you’re looking for a shop that takes the time to explain things clearly and treats customers honestly, we’d be happy to help.
